Week 12 : Final Project Progress

For this week I started drafting my story and storyboards for the animated short. Below is the story behind the animated short.

Title: Heirloom

The frog is an alchemist that turned himself into a frog with one of his potions. He needs to consume the frog potion once a week to remain in frog form. The ingredients listed for the frog potion requires one of the most rare tomatoes which is the heirloom tomato. To get these tomatoes, every weekend he goes on an adventure to find those tomatoes.

Scene 1: goes to the fridge and finds out there's no more potions

Scene 2: starts making the potions

Scene 3: goes to get tomatoes for the potions but then he runs out of tomatoes

Scene 4: goes on his regular weekend tomato hunting

Scene 5: continues making potions/cutting tomatoes

Week 13 : Final Project Progress

For this week I started building my character for all the scenes in animate.

I've also started adding the props and background on the first 2 scenes.

Week 14 : Final Project Progress

For this week I added the props and started animating the other scenes and finished the animation.

The video below is the first draft where I exported to look at the sequence and timing.

The video below is the second draft where I cleaned up the scenes.

I felt like the last scene should not be him cutting the tomatoes and just end there so I've duplicated the 2nd second and added it as the ending which made the flow much better.

Ms Jennifer also made a comment about scene 4 where the frog was running but the hat and bag was not moving, so I made revisions on that scene.

Then for the final animation I've added the intro, end credits and sound effects.

Week 15 : Final Project Presentation

For this week we had to present our final project to the whole class in a zoom session.

Reflection

This project was actually very interesting and fun to do because it gives me the opportunity to actually create a story and animate it. I've always been interested in animation but have not tried to animated a story before. It was quite challenging to build the characters and props that are used in some scenes as some character overlayed the props. During the consultation sessions I had been given many feedbacks on my work such as the positions of the character arm and small details such as the hat moving as the character runs. Those added details actually made the animation more fluid. Overall, I had a lot of fun doing this project and am actually proud of the final product which I shared to most of my friends and family. Lastly, I would like to thank Ms Jennifer for assisting me throughout this semester and making it a fun subject to learn. Since this is my last semester in Taylors, I feel like it was a great opportunity to have had taking this subject. Thanks again ms!
