Week 7 : Lecture
For this week we discussed on character acting, character lip sync and character expressions.

1. Character Acting
Acting is animating the personalities and character traits of another into inanimate objects. The character acting can rely heavily on a vocal performance of a voice actor and the performance is driven by 3 factors:
  • Script writing
  • Actor's interpretation of the script
  • Director's overall vision
Animators must have good imagination to flesh out the character's personality based on the mixture of real-life people.

2. Character Lip Sync
One of the important elements that gives life to animated characters is giving them a voice. Lip syncing is the process of synchronizing the sound and the character's mouth to sync with the audio.

3. Character Expression
Expression is about conveying emotions, personality and storytelling, with the use of facial expression and body language. Expressions help to make the characters look more appealing.

Project 2: Character Acting & Lip Sync
By using our character designs, we were tasked to do a simple acting scene which includes gestures, expressions and lip sync. Audio clips are provided to us but we can also record our own audio clips. We are also required to sketch out 6 to 8 facial expressions of our characters.

Judging Criteria
  1. Technical Execution on character gestures and poses in acting.
  2. Technical Execution and understanding the use of lip sync.
  3. Understanding character proportions.
  4. Background design.
