Week 10 (3/6/2021)On this week's lecture, we were thought about transitions.
Moment-to-moment
One of the most common forms of transition is moment-to-moment where it is used to slow down and draw out action. This means that using it too often would cause the comic to be dull and laborious to draw and read.

Action-to-action
Next most common transition used in superhero comics is action to action. Its basically a less finely sliced version of Moment to moment and typically focuses on events or movement from panel to panel and over larger intervals of time between moments.

Subject-to-subject
This transition to related moments but focusing on different subject in the same scene.

Scene-to-scene
This transition is a series of events that happen in one location, and continuous period of time. A change of location or significant jump in time between panels is considered the end of a scene and the start of new one.

These are just a few transitions that has been taught during the lecture. There are more transitions such as aspect-to-aspect, symbolic, rolling transitions and non sequitur.

For this week I drafted the story for the comic which is shown below.
Heirloom
Act 1 : Once upon a time, there was a caring and loving little boy. He likes to help his parents around the house doing chores and preparing meals. He would usually help his mother cook dinner for the family which includes his grandfather which was living with them. His grandfather would always mention that the food at home reminds him of late grandma's cooking. Grandpa's favorite meals made by grandma was her famous tomato soup.
Act 2: One day, grandpa became very sick and couldn’t get out of bed. So, the little boy would always bring a plate of their dinner for grandpa. Because of his sickness, he couldn’t eat as much as he wanted anymore. Grandpa would say that he misses eating with the family on the dinner table and spending time with them. Then, the little boy decided to create one of grandma's best dishes which was the tomato soup that grandpa loved. However, the tomato used in making it are not sold anymore, so the little boy had to plant the tomato himself. The little boy started a small farm at the backyard. He sets up the land to plant the tomatoes. Managing his farm every day, he would constantly check on the tomatoes to make sure it was growing perfectly.
Act 3: He worked hard on the farm for 2 whole months and the tomato started to grow bigger and plump. When the day of harvest came, the boy excitedly ran to his farm but was shocked to find out that his tomatoes are gone! Those ripe tomatoes seem to have been stolen or eaten by an animal. He was so sad and ran back to his room crying. However, when dinner time came, his mom asked him to send a bowl of food to grandpa. To his surprise it was tomato soup which his mom helped harvest earlier in the day to prepare dinner. In the end, he was so happy that he got to give grandpa a taste of his favorite tomato soup which he missed so much.
Week 11 (10/7/2021)
For this week, its self directed so I just continued creating sketches for my comic. Below is the sketches that I have created for this week. The sketches drawn are kept simple as its target audience is towards kids.

Week 14 (24/7/2021)
Reflection
I'm grateful to get this opportunity to create a webtoon comic. I don't actually read webtoon but my peers do so its quite an experience going into this project. I also learnt about creating stories using the 3 act structure which was actually really helpful. A story with a good structure makes the story have a better flow and understandability. I also learned that its not easy to make a good comic which I tried my best doing since its my first time diving in this creative space. Uploading the comic into webtoon was also a little bit nerve wrecking cause I was afraid of bad comments on my comic but to my surprise I have actually gotten 2 likes and 11 views. The likes and views are not from my friends cause I have not shared it with them yet so that was quite uplifting. Other than that I had the opportunity to create a motion comic, "killing 2 birds with 1 stone". Going into animating the comic, I didn't want to make any big animations on the comic as it is a feel good and relaxing comic. So I've added feel good background music and subtle sound effects to keep the viewers interested in reading the comic. In conclusion, I got to experience a lot of new things in this project and am sure that would help me in my future projects. Last but not least, I would like to thank my lecturers Ms Anis and Mr Kannan for providing their service and time for the students of this group and bearing with this group as we are not design students. Thanks for the amazing semester!
