Week 5: Exercise 1&2
For this week we had public holiday, so we didn't have class. However, we are to finish our exercise 1 and 2 by the end of the week which is Sunday, 2nd of May. Below are the work that I have came up with for the exercise.

Exercise 1
Vormator Challenge character @ 600x600 px

This is the first sketch of the character that I came up with. The idea was to create a snake or lizard type character. I've added the overlapping Chevron shape to create a sense of depth to the character. I was not too happy with the character but I feel that there is potential with this concept so I just went in Illustrator to try building the character with the shapes.

Fig 1: Sketch

When creating the character, It was more presentable than the sketch I had. I've also added lots of parts to the character compared to the sketch. As seen in Fig 2, it is the final character build that I prefer. After that was just finding the right colors. So, I experimented with the color shift where I'm able to shift all the colors at once. By the end of changing and finding color combinations, I've came up with these 4 color variations.

Fig 5: Color Variation 4

Out of all the color variations I prefer the 2nd color variation as it has good contrast between the colors. Also, I've picked this color variation as I think It would fit more in a wild environment making it easier to come up with the landscape on exercise 2a.

Exercise 2a
Landscape @ 600x800 px

Below are the sketches for the landscape that I feel were appropriate for my character. Since my character is similar to a salamander or axolotl, I've created 3 landscapes that contains water or is under water.

Fig 9: Landscape 3

Attached below is the final composition for landscape 1. I've picked to do landscape 1 because its much simpler and since it would be used as the background for the trading card, it would make much sense to complicate the background as it would look too crowded.

Before coming up with the final, this was the clean vector art of the landscape. This is without the texture masks and blending.

This rock image is used to create a subtle rock texture for the ground in the landscape.

This green underwater image is used to create a dark and ominous feel to the landscape as the character is a "monster" underwater.

This light underwater image is used to give lighting or rays of light from an underwater perspective to make the underwater feel more realistic.

Exercise 2b
Game Play Card composition @ 897x1479 px

Below are the compositions for the trading cards. I've chosen to do a Pokémon inspired card template.

Fig 15: Final Composition

This Zekrom card is where I took my inspiration for the template that I went with. I chose a full art Pokémon trading card because it shows more of the character than the usual cards would.

Also I've tried to add a little bit of shine to the card to make it look more like a trading card.

Below is the shine that I've used to create the effect on the card.
