Reflection

Experience

My experience when doing this subject is that it was quite stressful for me because I don't really want to do designs that I don't like and I also hate formatting. At first I really didn't understand why we need to format the portfolio so strictly but now I somewhat understand why a good consistent design would look nice and pleasing. When designing in this class, I really had a hard time as I was really insecure with my design because my peers have really good ideas compared to mine and the criticism was really though for me. However I know that that is how people will criticize design work in the working scene. Overall it was a challenging subject but I really tried my best to get over my anxiety and get through this class.

Observation
I feel that I have learnt a lot from this subject about typography. In the beginning I didn't think of typography as anything much but when the first lecture started I was really drawn into the history and process of creating a good type. The subtle details in types are what gives it its personality and now I really give more attention to details when doing my own design work.

Findings
The things that I have learnt in this subject is just the basic parts of typography and it really helped me a lot in developing my design skills. I'm sure that there is so much more to typography in Advance Typography but I feel that this is sufficient enough for my design skill development for now. I also learnt to take criticism and make do with the feedback but I still feel that taste of work plays a huge role in criticism and feedback. A design might not look nice to a person but it might look good to more people so I feel that pushing someone to changing their design just to suite a "taste" is not really effective.
